Giving Time to Earth

A cause that needs to be change as our dear planet heats up. Last March 27,2010, I ended up celebrating the Earth Hour for the second time. Last year, I was celebrating it on the isle of Boracay, together with fire dancing and hola hola music. Didn’t quite expect that somehow the similarity I get from this year.

It’s a global vote that took place about 3 years ago. In 2008, the world gathered as everyone donated his or her 60 minutes of lights off and it was a success. The following year, same thing happened but surprisingly the Philippines topped other countries for supporting earth hour in 15 million major cities and towns across the islands. Last Saturday, the preparations for the said event even got bigger and bigger. Through social networks and media, the country has once again donated its lights to mother earth.

Being alone during that one hour would be a pain in the neck. Luckily I was already scheduled to have my so-called fun run with friends in the afternoon. Thanks to Lara’s sister to have me around the event of her company the Aboitiz Group. The problem started with my outfit. I was clearly thinking of a fun run not a walkathon. I was just surprise to see people in pants! And yes I was feeling er dreerie but nonetheless walking with your pants from Banilad to Mabolo is not a good idea. Still I stick on having my running shoes (dear old pair ones), gym shorts, bag pack and my black shirt to walk my way through the streets. It was more like having a cardio on the pavements.

The whole night was amazing! I was ending up staring through fire dancing; drum beating with howling and more fire! And oh yeah the place, Persimmon Plus, was great for the event. Another album full of memory check!

On April 22, 2010, the celebration of Earth day was on the date. So it was kinda weird for me to be on a trip on that day outside the province but it was free. I spent my earth day visiting Eden Park in Davao city. It was a forest sort of park with extremely thick trees, wild animals, lavish gardens and germinated fruits and vegetables. We even have to ride on through the park, with 3 stops for picture taking and having an eat all you can buffet before the tour.

I know it’s ironic that we didn’t go there by foot and used gas instead, but my entourage was a couple of middle age girlies. Yes girlies with the exception of my father and I was their slave for taking pictures every scene they think were good. Ok fine I have to admit, it was fun but those middle-aged girlies sure knows how to pump some adrenaline for 3 straight days!

Back to Earth day, there were some mountaineers on the said park doing their gearing up on a hike and some just brought their bikes with them. It would be fun to be with them yet I’m a foreign to the land so I was stuck with middle-aged girlies.

Celebrating Earth awareness was fun. The only problem is that this country is strictly having issues on energy sources. Almost all provinces have an earth hour wait make it like 2-3 hours without power. It sucks big time but I guess this earth really needs to be admitted or we’re gonna be screwed.
