October 15, 2013

Woke up the usual and timed in for work. Second day on being a nurse with my baby patient in the pedia ICU. I was psyched to get the day over for it was my last day and was the holiday. Holiday meaning double pay for some how staying 12 hours on the hospital.

My patient was still awake and her mother was there. Luckily my patient was attached to an oxygen cannula and to the cardiac monitor only, so it wasn’t much of a hassle.

Around 8:15 am, I was done with preparing her milk and giving the meds when suddenly it started to shake. I was kinda reluctant that the earthquake would stop but it got stronger. The mother was praying then onto the Lord and held on the baby crouching herself unto the floor. Instinct brought me to keep them priority so I covered them with my body not caring of my own. I was still in calm and I could hear some of my workmates screams. I started to panic a lil when I saw some falling ceiling tiles from the hallway. This was not an ordinary shake and well I think it lasted around  a minute. Instinct drove me again that it wasn’t safe and the three of us should get out.  The mother and her child was still calm and well I just pulled out all the cables and aquapack and headed to the exit. No one was badly injured but those gruesome seconds of the deadly shake was unbearable.

My hands were shaking when all the trembling was over. Good thing my patient was calm enough. My other two workmates were crying and shaking as well. All I could thing next was to provide oxygen for the baby, good thing my senior staff had already secured a portable oxygen. The Pedia Resident was there and checked the baby, said she was ok. My pregnant charge nurse decided to transfer my patient to the ER, an isolation room to be exact. Together with the resident, the baby, her mother and two of us staff nurses, we headed to the ER since my workplace was on the second floor.

The stairs were packed of people when we got there. Everybody was in a frenzy including patients who could walk, patients who can’t but where man carried or carried on their beds, medical staff and other people who just wanted to get out of there. The hospital doesn’t have any ramps available on floors so they man carried the beds, breaking along the way some parts of the stairs.

When we reached the er, thankfully the isolation room was empty and the baby was still in a calm state. I just hooked her to a portable pulse oximeter and oxygen, she was fine. I was still trying to contact my brother and cousins at home. Like always, the reception was crap. I did reached them after a couple of trys and there were fine. My pregnant charge nurse followed after us and stayed there. She wasn’t suppose to stay upstairs in case some after shocks occurred.

Code white was on.

I left my patient to the care of my charge nurse so I could help others upstairs. A few people were already on the ER with hyperventilating problems, seizures, injuries due to falling objects and fainting. It was like in a movie scene. I was asking God why during those first few minutes, and thanking Him that I was safe.

Transferring patients who are intubated is not a joke. There were seven patients on the ICU, two weren’t intubated and two adult patients on the pedia ICU both intubated. Our patients on the pedia ICU where transferred to the ICU since it was still in place. The ICU resident in charge was indecisive if to transfer all patients downstairs. News broke out that there was fire on the 5th floor due to some voltage problem but only in a room. The smell reached on the ER when I made my way up on the second floor. The Engineering department put down the fire quickly before the Fire Extinguishers got there. The significant others of the intubated patients went berserk-ed and demanded for their loved ones to get outside. Good thing the chief IM resident was there and made most of the arrangments and decision making. We had to transfer the patients. The non intubated patients were first, followed by the stable intubated ones. We were running like mad men with oxygen tanks on hand, looking for some spare oxygen gauges and ambubags. It was an adrenaline rush! All of them were placed on parking areas and other non critical patients were place on the streets with tents on. E-karts were opened, portable suction machines lined up, doctors were in a frenzy on updating the statuses of the patients and consultants ordering non stop. There was even an emergency CS made on the ER. The administration were also there.

the scenario at the Fuente Circle, Cebu after the quake [pic by coworker keith]

The scenario lasted even I was off my shift. It was gruesome and amazing at the same time. You could witnessed all people work hand in hand to get all those patients safe. Even the off duty staffs and alumni were there. The aftershocks were a pain in the asses but there was nothing else to do. Time flew so quickly and all I wanted was for those aftershocks to stop. That duty was so exhausted that even at night I wasn’t able to sleep properly due to the aftershocks; which my brother and I spent it in my cousin’s house in Talamban.

The earthquake had the magnitude of 7.2 originally from Bohol, which was a neighboring island of Cebu. It was more lethal for the Boholanos, roads and bridges been blocked and ripped open, no clean water and electricity too. Some of the fine churches were in rumbles. Even in Cebu the Basilica de Sto Niño has it’s bell tower ruined.

Other casualties included houses been shattered, my own university was flattened on the ceiling including the bus. Most cars were toppled down with stones and other building debris. A recorded of a hundred people (or more) died and some twenty people still missing.

It was a total disaster. Even after two days, aftershocks are still present. I guess the earth is getting old. So old that earthquakes and typhoons are often now a days. Is God’s way of revenge? I don’t think so. It’s His way that this earth is not perfect. No matter how human are well trained or well prepared for such incidents, still there are some that we couldn’t predict.

Ping Me: an Update

This would be just an update to what I’m busy with.
First my eligibility for NCLEX had arrived and that I surely taking a serious mode on the review thingy. So my schedule is tight with watching anime or series and reading mangas still intact. I’m so happy that I am able to reach katekyo hitman reborn’s latest episode. As of the moment, the latest episode is 190. Just 20 episodes to go and that I’m done, pure stream and that veoh player was my alibi on this. As for the mangas, kurushitsuji is so damn slow on the progress but the latest chapter is pretty good.

yes its cracking...

As for the other aspect, my brother has its own laptop and my cousin has a new notebook too. That leaves to me the eldest with the old pc. Damn! Just you wait for earnings and I’ll buy my own laptop. Still on bargaining my father not to disconnect our smartbro and to buy a router to have wifi! Inches to make him say yes hahahaha

Fifa is on the corner. The team I’m betting is still alive! Go argentina! I hope you do good on the quarter finals… betting on Gonzalo Higuain to do that stuff! Spain isn’t bad also plus those Germans do know how to play a good game with the crowds wowing!

Back to NCLEX, I’m having trouble with my friend wait frenemy on when to take the NCLEX. I wanted to take it on September, she wanted to take it on August. August is still early for me since I started second week in June to get my studying straight! Plus she’s the one who decided to stop with the review! If only I decided to ditch her, but that would be rude. My brain hurts, wanting to take with her or should I take alone. My mom bets on taking alone just to make sure. Her mother doesn’t allow her to extend, but I already gave up time on for her to decide but taking it early is a very huge risk. Not only that it’s expensive, but a one time take since the California state requires their state’s SSS number. I can’t do that! I’m still sticking September as my target month, I’m just being careful not reckless. The worse part is that the reason she wants an early take is that a hospital already called her and took the exam. I wasn’t even able to pass the requirements because I was afraid that it would clash on my exam date. Plus she’s not even sure if she passed the exam. It’s not my problem, I already told her that possibility but she pursued it anyway. I don’t want to go with her decision since she already made a wrong one before. I answered her that by the end of July she would get an answer from me.

its a love angle not triangle

This isn’t my business but I can’t stand it. Regards to my brother on his new chic he found. You see this chic was the same person my brother’s best friend tried to court. He failed but didn’t give up that yet. As for one thing my brother, his best friend and this chic are classmates so ultimately they would see each other in school. The best friend however kinda let it slide of courting the chic since he always gets busted. I don’t know if my brother asked any permission or had any closure with his best friend but they stop talking after my brother when for that chic. As for that chic, I don’t know. I feel irritated I mean she obviously know that they are super close friends what the hell he said yes to my brother. As for my brother, what on earth was he thinking ditching his long time friend for a girl! Man its like total wreck, another good relationship went down because of that. I have nothing against that chic, it’s that her action made me judge right away that she has a defect or something. Typing about it makes me annoyed but I can’t stand it! My own brother blinded with that! Typically that couple won’t last knowing my brother but then again I don’t about his best friend though. I even told my brother that clearly he’s the wrong guy on this scenario. He just laughed and won’t listen. Fine then go for the hard way.

Feels kinda relief after those paragraphs. As for other updates, I’m still being jailed for debts! When will this horror ends. Stupid stupid me for being suck a weakling on food! July is here and time time time is oh so precious. Procrastinating should stay away! I miss my friends, the close ones and that spending with frenemy is the only choice I got to be able to remind myself the horrible thing if I fail!

Post Election Ironies

Great that this country is catching up with the technological era of the rest of the world. Even though where neighbors with Singapore and Taiwan, its like baby steps for us to have our very own automated elections. Fast right? The results yeah but on the process it took me almost 3 hours to wait on that stupid line under the scorching heat coz of that PCOS machine malfunction. Worth it? For a first timer I’ll give 7/10 until the results came make that 4/10.

clearly marked like these people last may 10

Seriously what has happen to other Filipinos who voted? During the first hours on counting the leading presidential candidate was the former president; the former president who was impeached by the people and got away with the accusations due to the pardon given by Arroyo. I mean are we that forgetful on the events that came. Gaaah I hate it. At least Noynoy the one who has famous political parents outnumbered him. I said at least but that doesn’t make a good choice. Just because he’s an Aquino, does he have the skills? Evidences that I mentioned before this post were there. He did nothing during his senate years plus he was not the one who decided to run… he was pushed by people and that he maybe not a corrupt official but surely the decisions he will made during his term will still be from other people, a pushover and inexperience!

What annoys me the most is that the main reasons why people voted for him was that he’s not corrupt, parents’ shadow plus he’s not from the administration. Have people check his resume before? My grandmother keep mentioning of having his mouth drip with saliva like a kid who has no clue. At least my grandmom knows the candidates.

the lines were horrible also!

Don’t get me started with the senatorial race. Mostly those in where actors! Seriously people who came from the entertainment era? Really they’re where plenty of handful and useful candidates but the hell with the ones elected? Just because they appeared in television often, they know how to manage this country? Plus our very own Pacquaio, the country’s champ in boxing has own a seat in the congress. Seriously the guy can’t even got his English right. Exposure. People got it all wrong. They should have checked first the candidates they are voting for.

the presidential, one is lacking though and please do check before vote

Our country keep on promising for a better future. They’re where candidates that had the skills and knowledge to do it, but we just blew it. Personally, the ones being elected are still the same persons from the previous administration nothing has changed.

Just think Noynoy as the president, senators like Revilla, Lapid, Guingona and Enrile and Arroyo and Pacquaio on the congress. Indeed the political family in this country has become so colorful that the same problems will still attack us. To think I’m the person who doesn’t care about politics. Another huge wave of turmoil is approaching!

"We didn't fail in the elections. We failed to bring about change in the period before it. The elections just validate the failure."

by Rico Blanco through twitter

Oh yeah i still have my own speculations intact about Erap being Arroyo's secret candidate for presidency. its like a give and take relationship, Arroyo pardoned him in return if Erap wins, Arroyo would be granted another pardon as well. yes purely my own speculation ^___^

the former president: what people where thinking?!

my favorite debate between two candidates must see!

Book of Revelations

I noticed that almost movies this year are based on how judgment day will come, or the apocalypse…the end of the world… indeed when will that happen and I dunno if I would be in it…

I guess God has its limit to His loving care since man sometimes wait almost doesn’t listen to HIM, and I am guilty on that part… I have to admit He is so generous but then, what we give Him back well not equal. I know He wants us to be happy but then again mostly on this generation, acts of man hardly pleased Him.

the 4 horsemen by ~scumbugg

The human extinction, still I believe that the process of our annihilation would be kinda slow, the signs are not that obvious but the things man did for the past years, like the wars, not caring of the environment, etc., would have a rebound tendency on us; like Newton’s third law of Motion, a give and take relationship.

It’s so obvious since Mother Nature has yet again unleashed her wrath for how many times already. Whether land, air or water, man will have to face it. Does this mean that on that frightful time will only man change his ways? That’s what the movie, The Day the World Stood Still, pointed out in the first place. I just hope that change would be permanent I mean they didn’t get the whole news anyway… but that’s a movie.

wrath of mother nature by *Srboraa

The slow process or it could be what revelations had written in the bible… The coming of horsemen and all the sins will be damned in the world. Some people do interpret the writings in the revelations as somewhat happening in reality right now… just like what I said about the slow process thingy.

I saw the clip on History channel one time, talking about what were the signs of the end of the world. It was pretty convincing, I’m trying to find a video about it on the net so that you could see the whole thing.

One point I remember on the clip was that water would turn into blood, in reality they prefer the red tide as one that stains the whole creatures of the sea dead, leaving it stain with blood. Kinda creepy isn’t it…

CLICK HERE FOR THE WHOLE CLIP

Movies do give you idea on your faith… I know there would no such hero to rescue the human race since that’s what the Creator wants to happen, but if we could change just as now, maybe that time would be so so far from happening, I wouldn’t be on the face of the earth rather be a helping hand to my race (yes I am a coward and no hero! Ha!)

Ironic Alert!
I'm not a religious kind of a person but after seeing the clips, man was I guilty for everything!
