Knocking on Mr. Brain: The Intro

Random thought 1: Reasons

Is there a possibility of a situation that exist without any reasons? No
Everything happens to a reason according to philosophy.
Reasons exist because of choices. The choices we used had consequences. So man invented parallel universe for other choices to exist.
Curse you song from D’sound entitled ‘Do I need a Reason’ for these stanzas to live
I wonder what kind of parallel universe my other selves look like. I solemnly wish for this universe to have the 5 wishes granted.
1 wish down! Four remains and the 4th one is fast approaching. This September.

Random thought 2: Drying Undergarments
The random thought 1 had to die soon because of my eyes.
My brother had invented a faster way of drying undergarments in doors overnight.
How? By tossing it like a hula hoop of course.
Physics should be the winner of all of this with the help of air.
Not only that it’s helpful, its fun too. You’ll be imagining like a cowboy, with your undergarment as a rope to catch the bad guys
He’s been using this method for a year now. To my surprise it worked. No failed experiments
His best clients, my two cousins: a girl and a boy
Spotted both of them tossing undergarments on the balcony and inside the bathroom
Hang it dry near an air conditioning or electric fan for better results

Random thought 3: Coffee

Been on thinking about it lately, it’s become my source of energy
Worst part, it has been kind of a vitamin
Happy that I’m living healthily with no alcohol for almost 2 months now
Yet the suspect now is coffee, especially the caramel macchiato of Starbucks
Tried the non caffeinated ones like the hot chocolates from Coffee Bean and Bo’s
But the espresso shots are like love bugs calling me
So now I’m broke as hell with all the caffeine inside of me
Plus I’m like a walking zombie wanting some coffee instead of brains

Cakes or Ice Creams?

Naturally, my food passion is adopted from my father. Mostly we have the same tastes or more like cravings in life. Yes he has a sweet tooth as well but his vulnerability to having DM is getting bigger and bigger. As for me, the goal of “must taste all before” is on my system and I’ll regret in joining my father to that path later!

So I was thinking, cakes and ice creams are usually the best treats to find. Both are sweet, easy to buy or make and available everywhere! The question is, which do you really prefer? It’s a food fight!

Round 1: The Process

Both have delicate ingredients but the processes are quite different. For ice creams, you might need a machine that blends and cools the ingredients together. Still you can make ice cream at home without the machine but the process is kinda picky like checking your ice cream mixture every hour and mashing it again before putting back in the freezer. Good ice cream comes with air content. But once done perfectly, good and smooth ice cream is born!

Cakes too have a simpler process using cakes mixes that are readily available on stores. As for the traditional ones, you need to have a lot of flour and baking soda. As for the icing, you need to whip a lot of egg whites to it! In baking you need more ingredients and time for it, but once done the hard work won’t be that bad.

Round 2: The Presentation

Both have unique ways on presenting. Cakes can be served with icing, leche flan or plain , on a plate, in little boxes or plastic ones and you can do almost anything to it since it doesn’t melt easily. Ice creams always served chilled! Can be put in cones, cups or gallons and put a lot of things to decorate with like sprinkles, wafer sticks and marshmallows. The downside is that it’s contraindicating to environmental temperatures.

Ironically, both can be served at the same time. Good examples are the warm brownies with ice cream on top. I mean its soooo good to look at that somehow I kinda don’t have the guts on ruining it. But what the heck its good really good with the warmness of the cake and the coolness of the ice cream together in one setting!

Round 3: The Partners

Each food has its own complementary to bring about another level of tastiness!

Cakes are best partnered with tea or coffee for me. I usually don’t like it with soft drinks, milk or another over sweeten beverage since I want the taste of the cake to be there not mixing with the beverage. Water is fine, dunno with wines since I never tried one. Cakes and beers are a no no, they’ll give a combination that is heavy to the stomach and the beer’s bitter taste overshadows the sweetness of the cake.

Ice creams are great partners with cookies, muffins, pies and softdrinks. I really like to have the taste of warm and cool in my mouth that’s why a chocolate pie goes very well with vanilla ice cream. Not a fan of ice cream with softdrinks though, but people are digging it.

There are some cakes that have an ice cream center to it; as for me I still prefer a cake with warm fudge inside!

Round 4: The Price

It depends on two things actually: if purchased, the place you bought it and if home made, the ingredients and utensils being used.

Both can reach a very high cost especially the ones came from abroad. But when it comes to locality, ice cream has the advantage since the ‘dirty ice cream’ is a hit on the streets.

Round 5: The Freshness Period

Expiration dates exists mostly on food and it isn’t an exception to these delights.

Cakes however have more vulnerability to becoming stale. It needs to be covered to prevent moisture from escaping or to be consumed within a few days to prevent it from becoming spoiled. The freezer is a good place to slowing the process and cakes have more perishable ingredients than ice cream.

As for ice cream, having its cold temperature has its advantage. It can sit longer than cakes. Old ice cream can be recognize by having crystals forming on the mixture and has less flavor.

Winner!

For me! Ice cream is the winner. I guess my cravings for something cool has its advantage. Plus it has unique partners to go with it. Ahhhhh my sweet tooth never fails to judge my preferences. I have to admit I am also a cake fanatic but ice creams are creamier!

Bars or Coffee Shops?

My father usually reminds me of why this generation is really into stuffs that are strong… strong liquor or coffee. I guess he’s more into doing any sport he could way back in college (evidence: family picture album)Justify Full
He has a point though; bars and coffee shops are usually the spot (mostly youth) that are pack of people. So the question is where do you mostly prefer? It’s the battle of caffeine and alcohol! Go!

Vudu (Crossroads,Cebu) Formo (Banilad Town Center, Cebu) Loft (IT Park, Cebu)

some night clubs here in cebu

Round 1: The Venue
Totally opposite; the other one is serene, cozy and smells of coffee everywhere, lighting is adequate enough with a touch of drama to it, its like a library (with wifi of course) only there are no silent signs being posted. The other is packed with loads of people since space isn’t that big, dance tracks like rnb, hip hop, house, techno booming through loud speaker (showing your hidden dance moves), lights are kinda dim since disco lights are usually present and it smells like beer, cigars or sweaty people.

Downside of coffee shops is that sometimes it’s hard to concentrate in there since mostly people talk there loudly.
Bars are hard also to communicate due to booming sounds and the smell of sweaty people is just scary.

Round 2: The Food
Different food preparations but prices of both are high. Coffee shops serve people with caffeine or milk drinks and sweets oh love those sweets so much! Bars serve with also so different kinds of alcohol (taste testing!) and restaurant food (not all!). Either ways, taste depends on specific name but both have their own specialty in the area. Like I said, both offer prices that sometimes are high for me but hen again sometimes the price was worth of it due to the entertainment you got.

Round 3: The Show
Different! If you need to be alone, coffee shops can offer you that. Although sometimes people will bug you, but hey its not that weird unlike in a bar were just a random person can totally dance with you! Hmmm bars have great entertainment, aside from the dancing part, mini concerts are held. It can be a band, singer, group dance, or dj. Coffee shops well it’s a place where you yourself will be the entertainment, rather more like interviewing each other’s opinions and gossips. As for the downside of things, bars are usually spots where fight scenes are common… I guess guys with too much in their system have lost the decency of controlling the beasts within.

Starbucks, Bo's Coffee Club, Seattle's Best (all branches could be found in Ayala Center, Cebu)

some coffee shops i tried

Round 4: The People
I stick people in coffee shops coz usually its like “mind your own business” kind of thing. And I prefer myself and with my friends only, not some random guy who tries in hitting you just to get to your pants.

Round 5: The Service
Equally, both places offer good service. Yeah it still depends on the specific name of the place, but mostly orders came overflowing. Although you have to wait in a line in a coffees hops, still calling you name correctly to get your order is nice. Downside? Hmm bars sometimes give your orders so much that the bills are painful to pay!

Winner:
I have to settle in the middle. Sometimes my wild side creeps in so hitting bars isn’t bad just remember to stick with your friends all through the night. Coffee shops for me aren’t good places for studying but for drinking your favorite fraps or just having a decent conversation, it’s a perfect place to be at.

Just make sure that the services, food and people aren’t that nasty so that you could spend in that place til 5am!

other side of life, i started review and spent 2 weeks listening and contemplating my soul on medical-surgical nursing. Ironic, i find the review materials so easy but then i wasn't that contended so i end up hearing more lectures on the said subject. Next on the list, Psychiatric Nursing! When i hear this, my mind pictures itself on me ending up in a straightjacket that was color yellow and stuck in a yellow room hahhaha... bananas!

my sibling's bday was on october hehehe... i have nothing to give to him except my so called siblingly annoyance on forever being his greatful older sister... hahahha and that he should teach me on his saving skills! tsk tsk tsk. funny, i'm stuck in cebu and there he went home with my parents plus dinner in a restaurant. Not jealous since i did that when my bday was up last august...

Let's celebrate!

September has gotta be the most celebrated month for me besides December and January… ironically my birthday month, August, had its angst so I have to spend my day with daily routines in life e.g. lying around, watching tv and doing nothing hmmm I had dinner with my adoring parents that day hahaha I dunno where they got the money from but it sure was a feast (my bro was envious at that time!)

Celebration 1: the chopstick birthday

It was Carmi’s birthday actually and I had an idea to have this so called sweets hoping with Lara, well she agreed but the celebrant had other plans as well…. So we end up in this Japanese themed restaurant, which was ok except for their ramen. I don’t get it, it was like eating instant noodles with barbecue chicken added to it… still I was the only one who ate it all hahahhaha

It was like an experiment for Lara, since it was her first time… I can’t still forget what she ordered… a kiddie meal hhaaha well it has anything to it with tempura and dessert, like she said it was a safe meal… I think she had episodes where she almost gagged after eating a whole sushi hahaha hmmm the pictures were stuck in my phone and i had it stored safely from another's phone (note: the egg rolls had a side dish that looked like rose petals and tasted like crap!)

Ice cream came next with a whooping six scoops in all…. Let’s just say I had a banging head ache the next day and a lot of trips to the loo

Celebration 2: the catered fiesta

Yup, that’s right… catering! Hmmmm usually I hate catering since some restaurants serve food, which aren’t safe to eat for me (like empotido! Who serves empotido in a catering service?! Yuck!) thanks to my mother all the food were great hahahah especially the buttered chicken and the black mamba (not sure with the name), a dessert made of 2 layers of pure cream and chocolate

Fiesta in our own home was a little different; it was more like a private dinner party and exclusive to invited guests. Mostly the visitors were friends from my parents, the rest of the relatives and few of my classmates in high school… I was expecting for my lefty island to be there, but I guess his parents had other plans (or he was in cebu)

my youngest cousin at our party

my new dog chowder!

Earlier in the same date as the catered fiesta, it was Keshia’s birthday, classmate both in high school and college. It was kinda weird since the weather wasn’t conducive for swimming. Another classmate and I surprised her with a small cake with candle on top and the rest of the afternoon I was there yapping my mouth on some stories and gossips and had cold feet to take a swim. Seriously I love swimming but with winds blowing that give icy chills on you, forget it!

with the birthday girl over our own city lights

Oh yeah, what I hate about being a hostess to a dinner party, slamming on to some coconuts with bare hands! It’s a man job but I guess my brother is a sissy when it comes to this hahhaha but using a knife makes me nervous so aiming them seems safer Hmmmm Maybe this event was an exception since I had pretty good aims on hitting those coconuts (guess who I was mesmerizing hahhahha evil!)

Celebration 3: the solo flight guest

Back on cebu, the twins kept bugging me on attending their fiesta way up north in cebu… I already rejected the invite since I was at home… magically the next day, I was at a water vessel heading to cebu since my brother insisted that I should come along na lang! The weather was still sulking at me and got teary eyed when we arrived at the port… that was it! I decided to stay indoors and forget about the twin’s fiesta…

the person i was referring to the homebody hangover post is in this pic shhh....

Morning came; I was hell bored to death! Then again the twins texted that the invite was still open… ting ting! I grabbed my bag and headed forth to Danao! It didn’t bug me that I was in solo, rather it was weird but traveling alone is one of my expertises.

All was nice hahaha since I had free food and karaoke! Oh yeah we also went to a UK trip and bought two shorts worth 30php hahahaha

Like I said, being alone has its ups you know!

I know, I’m talking mostly of food but what gives haahhaa these 3 unexpected events happened and I am still looking for more of those impromptu travels! Believe me or not these events happened less than a week! Maybe next week, I’ll be standing in Tokyo Tower or meeting Lee Dong Wook in person (dreaming! Hahaha)

Sweet Sweets

ok technically i'm addicted to sweets and korea!

for the past few days i've been dying to want to go to that country to experience itself what's like to be there... and maybe a detour to japan to buy me some rice pudding (ube!) and more mangas i could get my hands on (weeeeeeeh its been my dream ever since!)

when i was searching, i encountered this commercial about this store in Korea. It's a bakery named Tous Les Jours (French for "everyday"), a French themed bakery found in Korea around 1996... the products they're selling are way too cute to eat hahahha like i said i'm a big fan of sweets, from cakes to ice creams you name it! hmmmm as always they have a green color theme to it, dunno why green is usaully the color of choice when it comes to coffee or pastry.... maybe because of nature or something cozy can be accompanied to it...

other things i found was that they had a commercial starring Jo In Sung (Memories of Bali) and Goo Hye Sun (Boys over Flowers). There are a lot of commercials starring the two of them but the three videos below are my favorites...

The Shoe Story

The Cake Story

Lips Mark

Waaah they are so adorable! (ok i'm getting so gay at this) hahahha who cares but they make a cool couple together, dunno why there weren't any series starring the two of them... i really prefer the two of them than with Lee Min Hoo... i guess i kinda see Goo Hyu SUn more mature than Min Hoo and that Jo In Sung is way better hahahha... still they had great chemistry in BOF and i can't deny that... oh yeah just saw the other commercial of Sandara and Min Hoo, he's weird there.... he looks more gayish than ever waaaah i dunno maybe guys with eyeliners make me sick(my opinion) or there was no eyeliner, hmmm yet he still looks gay.

The tous les jours commercials aired same month last year, and that the bakery had another commercial this year. Sadly, Jo In Sung was replaced with Rain... tsk tsk still i prefer Jo In Sung.... hopefully there's a series between them waaaah that way ill be contented on what my eyes are seeing hahahaha (selfish!)

if you have any sweet delights to share about, pls pick me! heheeh i would love to hear it.... ironically i dunno how to bake but i do love to make desserts... but then again eating is always my specialty and food as my soulful passion hahaahha

as for loosing the weight thingy, that could change hahahahha, chocolates are sweeter
^^
